About NMASJ

NMASJ brings to NMCA the paradigm shift now occurring in the counseling field, that of a consciousness of the importance of addressing advocacy and social justice in counseling. NMASJ provides a meeting ground for counselors, students, and people from the large community who wish to work together for a more just and fair world.

NMASJ is not based on a predetermined outcome of what social justice "should" be, but rather offers a growing, dynamic force that relies on the experience, knowledge, awareness, and consciousness in the greater social context to direct its purpose and continued growth.

The mission of New Mexico Advocates for Social Justice is to promote social justice by:

• Promoting a consciousness of social justice through inclusive dialogue within the counseling profession
• Contributing to the process of developing personal and professional competencies in advocacy and social justice
• Fostering individual, family, and community wellness within cultural contexts
• Engaging in mutual and equitable relationships that cultivate communication and collaboration among communities through outreach and networking
• Providing a proactive and non-violent presence in the challenge to generate social consciousness within oppressive systems
