Learning Objectives
· Identify and apply the Four Pillars of Real Self-Care (Boundaries, Self-Compassion, Clarifying Values, Power and Agency) and explore their relevance to ethical decision-making and therapist well-being.
· Recognize signs of ethical risk that can arise when therapists neglect their own regulation, needs, or personal values, especially in high-burnout settings.
· Examine how nervous system dysregulation (such as fawning, collapse, or over-functioning) can influence professional boundaries and ethical practice.
· Evaluate personal patterns around self-care and ethics using reflection and values clarification to identify areas where clinical judgment or integrity may be compromised.
· Integrate experiential and somatic tools (including tracking, movement, and guided inquiry) into a sustainable, ethics-aligned self-care plan that supports attuned and responsible client care.
· Discuss how power, privilege, and systems of oppression impact both self-care and ethical responsibilities in therapeutic relationships.
