Welcome to NMCA's 2026–2027 Fiscal Year
As we begin the 2026–2027 fiscal year, the New Mexico Counseling Association (NMCA) reflects on another year of growth, collaboration, and service to the counseling profession across our state.
We extend our sincere gratitude to our outgoing President, Jeannie Montoya, and our outgoing board members for their dedication, leadership, and commitment to NMCA. Their time, expertise, and service have strengthened our organization, expanded opportunities for professional development, and advanced our mission of supporting counselors and the mental health and well-being of New Mexicans. We are grateful for their lasting contributions and the foundation they have helped build for the future.
At the same time, we are excited to welcome our new and returning Board of Directors for the 2026–2027 fiscal year. Together, they bring fresh perspectives, innovative ideas, and a shared passion for advancing the counseling profession through advocacy, education, networking, and member engagement. We look forward to the opportunities ahead and all that we will accomplish together in the coming year.
Welcome, NMCA President Alex Murillo
NMCA is pleased to welcome Alex Murillo, PsyD, MS, LCDC, as our 2026–2027 President. Dr. Murillo brings a strong commitment to the counseling profession and a vision centered on collaboration, advocacy, and strengthening the voice of counselors throughout New Mexico.
In his welcome message to members, Dr. Murillo reflects on NMCA's history while looking toward the future:
"It is an honor to serve as the next President of the New Mexico Counseling Association for the 2026–2027 term. I must first acknowledge the contributions of all members, former presidents, and everyone who has dedicated their time, whether directly or indirectly, to maintain our progress."
He recognizes the remarkable work that has shaped NMCA into the organization it is today and reaffirms the Association's commitment to supporting counselors through continuing education, conferences, professional networking, advocacy, and public awareness of mental health.
Looking ahead, Dr. Murillo shares his vision for the coming year:
"This year, I intend to ensure that NMCA's presence is felt at all levels, maintaining an organization that is welcoming for you to engage, participate, and contribute to the brainstorming and decisions that will lead to meaningful generational changes."
As NMCA continues to grow, we remain committed to creating meaningful opportunities for members to connect, learn, lead, and advocate for the counseling profession throughout New Mexico.
We invite all members to become involved this year by attending professional development opportunities, participating in committees, volunteering at events, and helping shape the future of our organization.
Together, we will continue building a stronger counseling community for New Mexico.
